Use official court fee sources
Divorce filing fees should be checked against official court sources. California Courts publishes statewide filing and fee-waiver information, and county courts may publish fee schedules or local filing pages. If a fee is not verified from an official source, treat any number as a planning placeholder, not a final amount.
Fee waivers are part of the filing conversation
California has a court fee-waiver process for people who qualify. That process can matter if the filing fee is a barrier. A fee waiver concerns court fees and costs. It does not automatically cover private attorney, mediator, document preparation, or other professional costs.
Why county verification matters
County websites can change their fee schedules, filing pages, e-filing instructions, and self-help links. A county page may also explain where to file, how to submit documents, and what local resources are available. Before filing, check the county court page directly and save the date you checked it.
